Nacka Strand

A strategic plan for a small city district separated from the center of Nacka by a motorway and topography.

Infill and redevelopment to drastically increase housing units; the plan is based on a thorough public dialogue process conducted by the municipality. A complete natural stormwater system for the entire district (new and existing), traffic planning that emphasizes pedestrians and bicyclists, and the preservation and enrichment of the existing natural environment and habitat corridor. Design guidelines for a comprehensive green structure introduce a series of new parks, play areas and accessible recreation in forested areas. A revitalized waterfront with pedestrian paths and a wider promenade that allows for multiple activities. The district’s main square and stair/rail link to the water are significantly improved with wider stairs that lower the viewpoint from the square. A central terraced park with a new café and seating, is anchored by the main square and a new plaza at the waterfront.
